3. Cookies and Tracking Technologies

• Strictly necessary: a localStorage key stores your light/dark mode choice, and a second key stores your cookie consent decision. Neither is ever sent to any server.
• Authentication: if you sign in, Clerk sets a session cookie so you stay logged in. These are required for account features to work.
• Analytics: we use PostHog to track pageviews and feature usage in aggregate. PostHog stores a cookie to distinguish unique visitors. Loaded only after you consent.
• Advertising: Google and its partners set cookies to serve and measure ads. See section 4 below for full detail and opt-out instructions.

When you first visit the site we show a consent banner. Analytics and personalised advertising cookies are not set until you accept. You can change your choice at any time from the link in the site footer.

You can also disable cookies in your browser settings. Note that disabling strictly necessary cookies may affect site functionality.

Dev Encyclopedia is funded by advertising. We use Google AdSense, a third-party advertising service provided by Google LLC, to display ads on this site.

We retain your email address for as long as you are subscribed to our newsletter. Contact form submissions are kept for up to 12 months for reference purposes and then deleted. You may request deletion of your data at any time by contacting us.

8. GDPR (European Economic Area, UK, and Switzerland)

If you are located in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom, or Switzerland, the General Data Protection Regulation gives you specific rights over your personal data. Dev Encyclopedia acts as the data controller for the data described in this policy.

Legal bases for processing

• Consent: analytics cookies, personalised advertising cookies, and newsletter subscriptions. You may withdraw consent at any time.
• Legitimate interest: keeping the site secure, preventing spam and abuse, and measuring aggregate site performance.

We do not sell your personal information for money. However, the use of third-party advertising cookies described in section 4 may be considered “sharing” for cross-context behavioural advertising under the CPRA. 10. Children’s Privacy

Dev Encyclopedia is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with personal data, please contact us and we will delete it promptly.

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will update the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this page periodically. Continued use of the site after changes are posted constitutes your acceptance of the updated policy.
